There’s lots of great resources available to help you pick your Hawaii hotel. We have Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast, Trip Advisor, and various guide books. Maybe for you uber analytical types, you could include Consumer Reports into your selection process. Mark Ashley at Upgrade: Better Travel has written a nice article summarizing the latest Consumer Reports hotel rankings.
Unlike travel magazines that rank individual hotels, Consumer Reports ranks major hotel chains. Their categories are Fanciest, Luxury, Upscale, Moderate, and Budget. Most Hawaiian hotels tend to fall in the Fanciest and Luxury categories. Ritz-Carlton was the best of the Fanciest category. There is only one Ritz on Hawaii, which is in Maui at Kapalua. As for Luxury hotel chains that have a Hawaiian presence, Renaissance, Embassy Suites, Westin, and Hyatt all scored well.
