Hawaii Vacation News Roundup for August 14th

  • Big happenings on the Big Island!  First, Hurricane Flossie is passing nearby.  Thankfully Flossie’s strength has been reduced to a category 3 storm and it appears that the eye will not make landfall.  Up to 15 inches of rain are expected on the Big Island today.  As if a hurricane wasn’t enough to deal with, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the island approximately 25 miles south of Hilo.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the Big Island residents and visitors to stay safe.

  • Details are starting to come out regarding the super posh Baccarat resort in Wailea.  An exclusive gala sales launch party was held last week on Maui.  (And, why wasn’t I invited to said event?? 😉 ) They reported $300 million in sales from the launch party.  You can learn more about this luxury resort at their web site.

  1. Hi Sheila,

My name is Victoria Revay and I work with NowPublic.com, an online news agency that uses contributing reporters’ photos and stories to make the news.

I’m wondering if you happen to have photos or contacts that have photos in Hawaii of the weather that Hurricane Flossie is creating. Associated Press would like original photos and they’re willing to pay for it.

Let me know and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers~

    Victoria
