Hawaiians Have a Nose for Pure Music

Have you ever heard of a nose flute? It’s a bamboo flute that is played with the breath from the nose rather than the mouth. Ancient Hawaiians believe that the breath from the nose is purer than the breath from the mouth. The mouth can say things that defile it, but the nose cannot. So the nose flute is said to have a pure sound.

I found this Sesame Street YouTube video with a nose flute demonstration. For you former Sesame Street kids, keep an eye open for Mr. Snufalufagus. He appears to have quite the nose for the nose flute. 🙂
