I was checking my Hawaii airfare e-mail alerts this morning and noticed some significant price drops. For example airfare from Charlotte, NC to Honolulu, Hi went from $675 yesterday to $541 this morning. The best fares appear to be available in August, September, and October, which are excellent months to visit Hawaii.
If you’ve been suffering from 2008 Hawaii airfareaphobia, it’s high time to overcome your fears and check prices. You’ll need to spend about 10 or 15 minutes surfing the net, but there’s a great chance you’ll find some bargains right now. Here are a few tips for shopping fares in the current situation.
- Start with a flight search engine tool like Kayak.com that searches multiple airlines and discounters. Note that as of August 1, American Airlines results will not be displayed.
- Check fares directly on your favorite airline’s websites.
- After you see what sort of airfare only deals you can find, consider combining airfare with and without hotel on sites like Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Orbitz.com, Hotwire.com, etc.
I hope you find some airfare bargains because the hotel deals are unbelievable for the next few months. Your vacation dollar will really get you much more that this time last year.

That is a first to see, I wonder why the dip?
Good question, GOC. I’m not sure why fares are lower, but I’d guess it’s a mini-fare war.
