Hawaii Vacation Deals and News Roundup For January 13

  • The new Honua Kai Resort and Spa is due to open at the end of this month in image the Kaanapali area of Maui and they are offering some nice looking introductory rates starting at $195 per night. The nice thing about this resort is that each room has a gourmet kitchen. When you can make a meal or two in your room, you can stretch your vacation budget. Another aspect of this new resort that I like is that they offer one, two, and three bedroom accommodations which makes it perfect for families or sharing with friends. I’ve looked over the layouts of these rooms and they are really well designed.
  • Pleasant Holidays has a Hawaii vacation sale on Starwoods properties that’s worth a peek. Packages start at %545 for three nights and includes roundtrip airfare. If you can fly from LAX or SFO you can get 50% off companion tickets. From all other cities, you can get a free Hertz rental car.
  • A reader in Maui contacted me to tell me about an interesting class at VITEC/Maui Community College on January 26 called "Haoles in Hawai’i." The class will look at the visiting writers who came to Hawaii in the 19th century and how they shaped public perceptions of the islands. See this link for more information.

  1. Sheila, the class at VITEC sounds so interesting! I wish I were there to take it. It’s easy to become addicted to the beauty of Hawaii, but for many of us, the history and unique culture are what keep us coming back:-)

  2. Hi Janice – I thought it looked like an interesting class, too! If I had the time and I was on Maui, I’d love to check it out.
