King Kamehameha the Great was the first person to unite all the islands of Hawaii under one rule in the late 1700’s. He first fought to gain power of his home island, the Big Island of Hawaii. Then he battled to gain control of the other islands one by one. After taking rule of all the islands, he named his domain the Kingdom of Hawaii, after the name of his home island.
