Julie Andrews sang about her (Maria’s) favorite things in The Sound of Music. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a sequel to The Sound of Music where the von Trapps visit Hawaii? I would imagine that Julie Andrews (Maria) would have a brand new list of Hawaii-inspired favorite things. I bet you could help her write the new Hawaii version. Wouldn’t that be fun?
What about you? What is your favorite thing about Hawaii? What do you look forward to seeing or doing the most as soon as you land in Hawaii? Please share your favorite thing about Hawaii in the comments.

I love the beautiful sunsets in Hawaii and the gorgeous flowers.
My favorite thing about Hawaii is the pineapples. We can eat almost one a day! The tropical sweetness is like no other.
My favorite thing is driving along the Hana Hwy and seeing the waterfalls amidst the lush forest. The feeling of peace one gets.
One of my favourite things about Hawaii are the bamboo forests… loved the bamboo forest on the Pipiwai Trail in Maui! 🙂
a nice long run along the Queen K on the big island. Hot sun, high wind, lava rock. Time alone where Mother Nature is loudest.
Favorite single thing is the music…I love all the traditional dances that inspire the music or vis versa. I’ve attended three different luas and all were just a bit different from the other. One should not visit the Hawaiian Islands without going to at least one luau. The pagentry is just breathtaking. Guess my one thing turned into several…LOL
Our favorite thing about Hawaii is the ocean – whether boating, whale watching, snorkeling or walking the beach – we love the blue waters of Hawaii!
I was born and raised in Kihei, Maui and moved away with parents…I visit frequently and I never realized what I missed most until I was actually gone. I miss the waves crashing at night and the sound of the crickets and toads, if you went to Kihei now, you can still hear the waves, but not so many toads as Kihei is very popular, but I remember when there was only just one fast food place and Foodland to shop at….ahhhhh, memories 🙂
I almost think we need to stick with the rhyme scheme from the original song. 🙂
Helicopter rides over hot, lava flows,
brief mauka showers and double rainbows,
dives underwater and hearing whales sing,
these are a few of my favorite things.
Oh, and we need to bust out the ukulele for this, too.
My favorite things about Hawaii are the rainbows that appear when you least expect them and the magnificence of Wiamea Canyon
As someone who was born without the rhyme gene, I’ll just have to with a list…
. Swimming at one of the Kam beach parks and FEELING the whales sing
. Photographing sunrises at Halekala
. Snorkelling at Ahihi Bay & watching the humuhumu swim around
. Listening to the bag piper play at sunset in Kihei
. Dinner at the Waterfront in Maalaea
Sheila, my favorite thing to do in Hawaii is JUST BEING THERE in the warm sun instead of here in the cold slush!!!! Even of I turn the most beautiful shade of magenta!!! Number two on my list would be to see Kilauea in all her glory, followed closely by Waimea Canyon. The last two are on my ” to see ” list. Those are my favorite things.
One of my favorite things is hitting the Beach Bar at the Moana Surfrider for a glass of wine just in time for sunset.
surf, sand, mountains. I guess my favorite thing would be color. The color of the water, the bright greens of the mountains and all the trees and foliage. The color of the sunsets. Remember when you did a series of posts about the colors in Hawaii? Good one! :>)
My favorite thing about Hawaii is it hasall the elementsof life, fire, water, mountains, volcanos, salt air, rich island traditions with music and food…Hawaii celebrates life.
My favorite thing about hawaii is the romantic feel of walking down Waikiki beach, hand in hand at sunset. That is why my husband and I are renewing our vows there for our 10 year anniversary this July !!!
I love the people, Hawaiians are very welcoming and friendly.
the food is great and snorkeling is the best. S
Between facebook and the blog, I number the entries and then used random.org to provide a randomly selected winner. Congratulations to our winner — Sheila Brennan!
