Of all the Hawaii gardens that I’ve toured so far, my favorite is the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, just a bit of Hilo on the Big Island. I absolutely love it! Even my brother-in-law who is not particularly interested in botanical stuff, thought that going to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden was a highlight of his first Hawaii vacation.
In addition to the abundance of beautiful blooms, some other reasons why I like this particular garden so much is that it’s situated by the coast with excellent views of the picturesque Onomea Bay. Also, there are two lovely, natural water features at the garden – Onomea Falls and Boulder Creek Waterfalls.
The above photo is of a heliconia from Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. You can find more photos from our visit here.
Admission to this garden is $15 per adult and is well worth the price in my opinion. Check this link for hours and directions to Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden.
Have you been to a Big Island garden? Where did you go? What was your experience.

This is my favorite, too. I’ve been there twice and it was always really worth visiting it! Next time we’ll stay at Big Island hopefully we’ll go there a third time 🙂
Manuela — I look forward to getting back, too. I’m hoping it will become a Big Island visit tradition of ours.
We just went here today, and it was spectacular!!! Completely worth the entry fee, we loved every minute of the walk through the gardens. So much fun playing with the macro setting on my camera lens 😉 and the views of the ocean were breathtaking.
Cyndie — I bet you got some good photos. You should send your favorite one in for Aloha Friday Photos. 🙂
