As I looked through the recent photos we shot in Maui, I was drawn to some of our our macro photos. I wanted to share the things of Maui that inspired these macro shots.
This unique protea bloom from the Kula Botanical Garden really put on a show.
We could have easily gotten lost in the thicket of bamboo from the Pipiwai Trail.
A palm loaded with coconuts caught our eye near Hana.
No matter how many times we’ve been to Maui, beautiful hibiscus blooms always capture our attention…
… and a fragrant plumeria tree does, too.
Sometimes our food is so good, we must get a photo. For example, we loved the Steamed Pork Buns from Star Noodle in Lahaina.
Colorful, yummy Hawaiian papaya satisfies the eyes and taste buds.
It’s not everyday that you get to have coconut milk based ice cream served in a coconut shell with a spoon carved out of a coconut shell from Coconut Glen’s off the road to Hana.
At the end of an adventure-filled day, it was nice to sip a refreshing tropical drink from the Paniolo Lounge of Travaasa Hana.
I bet this bent and weathered Hana Highway sign would have lots of interesting stories to share if only it could talk.
To cap off this macro Maui photo gallery, here’s a shot of sand, surf and lava rocks from DT Fleming Beach that makes me want to be transported there now.
Do you like to take macro photos on your Hawaii vacations?

Great photos Sheila! The one from Star Noodle makes me drool…
Thanks, Malia
The steamed pork buns were onolicious. The buns were so light and fluffy.
Did the coconut shell spoon give you slivers? Were they worth it? Awesome photos 🙂
Thanks, Carrie.
The spoon was just slightly rough, but I didn’t get shell splinters on my lips. 🙂
Just curious Sheila,
Where did you get the coconut ice-cream in the coconut shell? We are thinking of putting that on our must do list.
Thanks, your pictures were so nice!

The coconut ice cream came from Coconut Glen’s off the road to Hana. I provide some “directions” in this post: https://govisithawaii.com/2011/09/08/trip-report-mauiaugustseptember-2011/
That coconut desert pushed me over the edge. It looks so good it almost hurts! Living vicariously through your blog posts isn’t easy.
Hehe, Dave. Sorry for inflicting that pain. 😉
