Mahalo to Lance Tan from Santa Monica, California for sharing this sunset shot with us for Aloha Friday Photos. Lance took this photo while visiting Waikiki in April.
One of the many lovely things about sunset time in Waikiki is that most hotels host live music to accompany the magnificent scene. Lance tells us that he was outside of the Moana Surfrider hotel within earshot of the the band playing that the hotel. He went on to add a lovely story of how he found a band to play at his wedding in 2006.
“My (now) wife and I had gone to Honolulu in 2006 to listen to different local bands in hopes of finding one to play at our wedding that summer in west Oahu. We had narrowed it down to a couple of choices when we decided to stop in at the Moana Surfrider, long one of my wife’s favorite hotels on the island, for a cool beverage. As we passed through the lobby we could hear guitar playing and two soulful male voices singing the Beatles in perfect harmony. We stayed for their set and were captured by their musicality and outgoing performance style. This is what we were looking for! At their break we approached them and although we weren’t able to secure both for our big day, one of the singers, Ben Vegas, did accept our offer and wound up performing with his female partner Maila Gibson at our reception. To the sheer delight of our wedding guests! The four of us remain close friends to this day.”
Happy Aloha Friday!
