Mahalo to Danielle Bauler for sharing this fantastic view for Aloha Friday Photo. Danielle took this photo from the top of the Diamond Head trail when visiting Oahu in May 2019.
A couple weeks ago, we shared information about a new online reservation system for accessing Diamond Head that is required for out-of-state visitors. That system went into effect yesterday, May 12. According to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources that oversees the program, approximately 40% of people attempting to enter the park had to be turned away due to lack of reservations.
KHON was onsite to get reactions of this new system. First, here’s a video visitors from Las Vegas who secured their reservations in advance.
Another video captured reactions from visitors from Kansas and North Carolina who were unaware of the new system, but were able to secure reservations with the assistance of the news reporter.
For information on hiking Diamond Head and making reservations, see this link to the state’s official page for Diamond Head State Monument.
Happy Aloha Friday!
