Mahalo to Kinga Fekete from Manchester, England for this lovely Aloha Friday Photo. Kinga tells us that this photo was taken from the grounds of the Mauna Lani Resort on Hawaii’s Big Island.
From this photo, you can see the edge of one of the many brackish fishponds surrounded by palm trees. Off in the distance, you can see one of Hawaii Island’s tall, volcanic mountains.
I’m not sure which mountain this one is, but my guess would be Mauna Kea. If it is Mauna Kea, it’s the tallest mountain in all of Hawaii. Mauna Kea stands at 13,803 feet (4,207 meters) above sea level.
As you can tell from Kinga’s photo, the grounds at the Mauna Lani Resort are lovely. If you are visiting the Big Island, but not staying within the resort, you can find free, public parking at Kalahuipua’a Historic Park and follow the short trail towards the fishponds and ocean. Along the way, you can look for petroglyphs. And, if you happen to be in this area around lunch or dinner time, Napua, which is one of our favorite Big Island restaurants, is here, too.
Happy Aloha Friday!
