Mahalo to Dan Mazzei from Seattle for sharing this excellent Aloha Friday Photo. He captured this shot of a humpback whale fluke on January 28, 2024 from Mahukona Park on Hawaii’s Big Island.
The peak humpback whale season, which spans January, February, and March, is such a captivating time to visit the Hawaiian Islands. It’s astonishing to consider that these majestic creatures travel thousands of miles, most likely from Alaska, to spend their winters in Hawaii for mating and giving birth, despite the fact that there’s little to no food for them in the waters surrounding Hawaii. That makes their journey even more remarkable. (Learn more about Hawaii’s humpback whale season.)
Happy Aloha Friday!
