Aloha Friday Photos: A view from Hideaways Beach Trail, Kauai

Mahalo to Bieke Peeters for sharing this neat shot for Aloha Friday Photos.

Bieke’s photo was taken from the trail to Hideaway Beach in Princeville, Kauai. What a pretty scene looking out over the coral reefs and beyond!

More than two decades have passed since we braved the steep, slippery trail down to Hideaway Beach. The hike left us both with scrapes and bruises, and, truth be told, it was a bit of a frightening experience. Though the small, secluded beach was neat to see, we both wondered if the risk was worth the effort.

Out of curiosity, I looked for some recent reports of this trail. From this video we see that the trail has been improved significantly with dirt stair steps carved out of the cliffside and rope hand rails. None of that was in place when we hiked it. Even with the improvements, this trail is not without risk, especially after rain.

Have you hiked the Hideaway Beach trail? What was your experience?
